Who: Celebrated by all patriotic Canadians What: Celebrates the birthday of Canada. Parades, Statuary holiday (no work), Political stuff, etc. When: Every July 1st Where: Celebrated all across the nation, coast to coast to coast! (Pacific, Atlantic, Arctic). Why: National pride for our peaceful, awesome country.
This year is Canada's 145th birthday. Still a young nation, compared to others. We were formed with Confederation (the joining of separate British colonies [called provinces today]) in 1867. Through the years, Canada has gained autonomy and independence from Britain, though the royal family still remains as "figureheads".

In some ways like the States, but in many ways very different.
There is in fact some country rivalry with our friendly neighbours
Very multicultural, especially in large cities.
Most Canadians live near the border (90%?)
We don't really say "eh" much.

Happy Independence Day/4th of July! (USA)
=SA= loves the USA!
USA profile: Capital -Washington, D.C. Largest city -New York City Official Language- none (English is the de facto language) Population- 313,851,000
You can see the culture through our movies, music, food etc. but it goes deeper than what you seen in mass media. It really is a regional and ethic thing since it is so diverse. The USA is a beautiful country with many geographic attractions. We value individuality, hard work, freedom of speech and living out the "American Dream." -this is the ideology that prosperity follows a good work ethic.
It is tradition to celebrate our independence with a barbecue by day and fireworks by night. You will see American flags everywhere as there is a high level of patriotism. It's a great day for family and friends to get together and celebrate their national pride. No worries.. Although it celebrates our independence from the British, there is no anti-British sentiment. In fact, they are our strongest allies (next to Canada). If anyone has specific questions about American culture you can ask S1gn4L or Lateralus.
